The shape of the shirt is very simple.
Two squares of linen fabric sewn together at the neck and sides. (Leaving neck and arm holes)
i cut a slit down the front panel, about 15cm long, for the neck shaping.
bodice shape
I then ripped off strips of the fabric and plaited them.
I have then sewn these on to the arm holes.
This pulled the sleeve holes in a little and gave a gathered effect.
I then took plaited pieces and wound them up and down the front of the shirt to give the tatty corded effects.
I took the plaited sections and sewed them on to the hem of the shirt, making the plaits shorter than the width of the hem so that it pulled it in and gave a bubbled hem line.
